Big Sur, California Elopement | Andrew and Kate

Big Sur, California is one of the most iconic spots on the West Coast where the land meets the sea. With over 90 miles of rugged landscape stretching along Highway 1, Big Sur is home to several state parks that make for the most beautiful backdrop for any wedding or elopement.

Andrew and Kate thought the very same thing when deciding on a place to elope. Living in L.A. for the last 25 years, the couple knew that they wanted to elope in a low-traffic area that had the perfect mix of land and sea. After chatting with them about potential location options, they ultimately decided on Big Sur, California.

Andrew and Kate’s Big Sur, California elopement started at sunrise where we watched as the sun rose over the cliffs, illuminating the ocean. The couple also brought their sweet pups along, which was such an added treat! The pooches played in the sand and gave the best doggie kisses while we explored the beach (and kept Leave No Trace principles in mind, of course).

After sunrise, we all went back to our separate Airbnb’s for a midday nap before meeting back up at sunset. During this portion of the elopement day, we explored more of the coastline and found our way to more rockier, cliffside terrain.

My favorite part of Andrew and Kate’s elopement was how they were down for anything. Whenever we saw a spot that made for the most perfect photos, we stopped, set up the shot and took in the scenery. Andrew and Kate were able to avoid the stress of a large wedding by choosing experience over tradition and adventure over societal expectations by eloping along the golden coast.
